If you decide to join Connemara Equestrian Escapes during the famous Galway Race Week, we will include a day at the races as part of our itinerary. Off to the Galway Races – July 25- 31 is always a popular and exciting package.
The great Irish playwright John B. Keane said that the “Galway races are a state of mind”.
This world-renowned summer festival of 7 days of racing includes fabulous fashion, delectable foods and an electric atmosphere with an infectious sense of fun. With a mixture of flat and national hunt racing, Galway Races attracts punters from all walks of life from the keen race-goer to the ordinary punter to experience this unique sporting event.
The Galway Races is certainly a festival for everyone. Over 140,000 people attended the Summer Festival Meeting in 2014. The total prize fund for the fifty-two sponsored races reached an impressive €1.5 million. If you fancy a flutter while at the course, there are various options for placing a bet at the Galway Races; the Tote, on-course betting shops and on-course bookmakers.
SAMPLE ITINERARYOur Itineraries are designed to ensure that all our guests are treated to the very best riding and cultural experiences Connemara has to offer. For riders, expect secluded beaches, quiet country lanes, mountain tracks and forest trails. There are ample opportunities to canter or gallop but, if you prefer a more sedate place, we will look after you. Riders and non-riders alike will enjoy first class accommodation gourmet food and a fascinating taste of the unique colour, culture, traditions and history of the Connemara area.
Below is a sample Itinerary but please remember, this is Ireland, where Murphy’s Law was invented, so sometimes the weather or other things beyond our control dictate that we may need to change plans at short notice.Accommodation is provided in our own lakeside farmhouse Curra Farm and (subject to availability) Renvyle House Hotel, Ballynahinch Castle or Cashel House Hotel. Your first accommodation with be our own luxury lakeside farmhouse, Curra Farm, where you will get to meet our herd of Connemara Ponies and maybe their mothers! You'll be paired up with the special Connemara Pony that will be your partner for the next few days. After an initial assessment and familiarisation session in our large outdoor arena, you may be ready to set off for a hack around the lake shore or through the forestry before dinner. After breakfast the next morning, we'll enjoy another ride through the open countryside or forestry surrounding Curra Farm before we head for the City of the Tribes where we'll have lunch and spend the afternoon and early evening at the Races. The feature Race on that day is the Topaz Mile Handicap, with a prize fund of €115,000. The Connemara Equestrian Escapes Day at the Races will include transport to and from Ballybrit racecourse, admission to the grounds, lunch in the Carvery Restaurant and a €5 bet on the tote. The next day we'll pack up the ponies and horses and head deeper into Connemara to the comfort of one of our carefully selected accommodation partners - your home for the remainder of your stay with Connemara Equestrian Escapes. When we arrive and settle the ponies into their stables, you can decide whether to ride your pony/horse or simply enjoy the facilities of the hotel
