The Riding

Depending on where we’re based, the riding will include mountain tracks and trails, beaches and country lanes. The pace is steady with plenty of opportunity for going up the gears. We’re always close to water so make sure to bring your swimming gear. If your horse has swimming gear, better bring that too!

Splashing in the Atlantic Ocean along the Wild Atlantic Way

Our Itineraries are designed to ensure that all our guests are treated to the very best riding and cultural experiences Connemara has to offer. For riders, expect secluded beaches, quiet country lanes, mountain tracks and forest trails. There are ample opportunities to canter or gallop but, if you prefer a more sedate place, we will look after you. Riders and non-riders alike will enjoy first class accommodation gourmet food and a fascinating taste of the unique colour, culture, traditions and history of the Connemara area.

Below is a sample Itinerary but please remember, this is Ireland, where Murphy’s Law was invented, so sometimes the weather or other things beyond our control dictate that we may need to change plans at short notice.

Check in for your and your horse will be early afternoon. After you’ve settled into your room, we’ll set off for a short hack to stretch our legs and explore the surrounding area.

That evening, we’ll enjoy some delicious bar food and get to know each other a little better.

After breakfast, we may ride through the byways of Connemara towards Clifden to visit the site of Gugliemo Marconi Wireless Station. This is where the world of communication changed on October 17th 1907 with the first public radiotelegraphy broadcast between Europe North America.

There is also a monument on this site celebrating another world-changing event. The first Transatlantic flight, piloted by Alcock and Brown, landed in this area on June 15th 1919 and used the radio station to send the news of their arrival to London.

Our next stop could be the picturesque fishing village of Roundstone, where we’ll meet with any non-riding friends and have lunch before taking a boat trip to the Island of Inislacken. Featured in Monty Hall’s Great Escape, it may be uninhabited now, but if you listen closely you can hear the whispers in the wind of a close community, working together in good times and bad. The turquoise waters welcome you in for a swim, or maybe just a paddle!

Back at your hotel there is a gourmet meal awaiting. All you have to do is hand us the reins and we’ll ensure that your horse is taken care of while you get ready for dinner.

We could hack to Mannin Bay where you can opt for an exhilarating gallop or a gentle walk along the unspoilt beach. If you ever wanted to swim with a horse, now is your chance. Or, you may prefer to take your mount for a paddle in the Atlantic Ocean. Either way, you will have built up an appetite for lunch before you prepare for your return journey home.
